HIGHWAY BLUES
by Charles Reeves
I've always been a working man
But retirement age has come to me
There's places I ain't been
Things I always wante to see
So I loaded my old truck
Crossed my fingers for the luck
And headed out west for the Mountains tall
I love to hear the robins sing,
See the flowers in the spring
And I love the Aspens in the fall.
Where I'm going I don't care
They can take me anywhere
Long as the tires keep going 'round
I got traveling in my veins
Always been a family man
But I still love that ol' highway sound.
Walking down the sidewalk
Seeing things I ain't seen before
Puts a lightness in my step.
Wish I could of done this more
Great someone with a "How do you do?"
He says to me "how are you?"
Without another word we walk on by
Got my truck keys in my hand
Breakfast waiting round the bend
I'll eat then tell this town good-bye.
Where I'm going I don't care
They can take me anywhere
Long as the tires keep going 'round
I got traveling in my veins
Always been a family man
But I still love that ol' highway sound.
