This is the day that they chose to wed
They had their future planned in their head.
A farmers daughter just out of high school,
And a handsome lad with a bag full of tools.

Neither knew what the future would hold for sure,
But their love for each other was pure.
Two years after they wed their first son was born,
From his Dad's arms he could not be torn.

They lived in an apartment and another two years would pass,
When they found that they needed a lawn with grass.
So they found a house on a quarter acre of land,
After signing a loan he found that he had the key in his hand.

Along came a daughter for them to make their family complete,
Four years later another son was born and they didn't name him Pete.
While she took care of the children and kept the house,
He would work and go hunting to see what he could rouse.

As a family many hardships they did weather,
Inside their pillows you would find feathers.
Their vacations were simple for some people of today,
To our relatives we would go and stay.

After many years along came another daughter,
Our house was full of laughter.
Soon sorrow would fill our house and our hearts,
Because the daughter had to depart.

A couple years later another daughter was born,
From our lives she could not be torn.
So now many years have passed,
And grandchildren and great-grandchildren have come at last.

Fifty-five years they had together before that final call came,
Our lives changed on that day and have never been the same.
Through courage and determination she has continued on in life,
And she still reminiscences of the life she had when she was his wife.

The band of gold remains on her hand,
As a reminder of the love from her man.
Love endures until the end,
The future is just around the bend.

So it is time to make this poem come to an end,
With our love we do send.
Of all the parents we could have had,
We are glad that we have had you and we aren't sad.
