THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING TULIP TREE

For many years I have left the house each day and have driven by the tulip tree that has been in our yard. The beauty of it in the spring when the leaves come out and the flowers that look like tulips that are yellow and green. Then in the fall when the cool air breaths upon the leaves and they turn pretty shades of amber. Then there have been times when the ice storms have come and the branches have been so heavy with the ice that they have broken off. But everyday I would go by the tulip tree and never think twice about it. That is until November 9, 2005.

The day started off like any other. After I awoke and got ready for work, I walked outside and picked up the newspaper. Sometimes it would be by the tree, sometimes it would be near my car and other times it would be in the middle of the driveway. That particular morning it was closer to the tree, but still in the driveway. After bringing the newspaper inside, I gathered up my purse, lunch and coffee cup and headed out to the car. After starting the car like so many other morning, I put it into gear and drove past the tree.

My day progressed as usual and it got to be lunch time and I called home like I always do and when talking with Jim I learned that something strange had happened that morning. He told me the tulip tree was missing and looking at the lawn you couldn't tell where the tree had ever been. So when I got home in the afternoon, sure enough the tree was missing. Thus it calls for an investigation as to "The Mystery of the Missing Tulip Tree."

I asked Jim if he had called the Police to report that the tree was missing?

old man

He said, "I didn't because they probably wouldn't believe me as there was no evidence that there ever was a tree." Although we have a picture with the tree in the yard, we all know that things can be added to pictures.

cop

So we didn't call the police. You know how sometimes you wait a little while and things come back or maybe your eyes plays tricks on you. Well no matter how many times we looked out the window the tree was still missing.

What could have happened to the tree? Could it have been a cootie that came along and took it? I have heard about cooties, but have never seen any.

cootie

Well that fella doesn't look big enough to do away with a tree in the few hours that I had been gone. So lets search on and see what other possibilities we can come up with. Could it be a beaver came by and threatened the tree and it ran off?

tree

We listened to the news on TV and there weren't any reports about any trees running around in the area. Maybe they were afraid to report news like that. Well there weren't any traces of a beaver being around in the area either.

There was an ant trying to carry off one of the leaves that was on the grass. Couldn't tell for sure if it was a tulip leaf or one from the neighbor's tree. But surely the ant wasn't strong enough to carry off the tree either. It could barely carry off that little leaf.

ant

Then there is the possibility of the tulip tree doing as this apple tree is doing and eating one of it's own kind. Now I don't believe that it is possible for the tulip tree to do that, so I shall search on and see what I can find.

tree

Could it be possible that this Monster came and stole the tree? Is that a leaf that I see in his mouth? He has big feet and there weren't any foot prints anywhere in the yard and it looks like he would have left footprints for sure. So it is time to call in others to help with the search.

monster

Mary Jane seems to think that the wind just blew the tulip tree away. However, because of the size of the tree that is impossible because someone would have seen it and nobody reported that they had it in their yard. Other than that, the day that it came up missing was a bright sunny day and no wind.

Mary Jane has a tulip tree in her yard too, but says that it has been there a long time so the wind didn't blow it up to her home. So I shall continue on with my search.

I contacted my sister Missy and told her that we have a tree missing and she thought that perhaps it was an Alien abduction.

dancing aliens

Well who do you call to find out if there were any Aliens in the area in that day.

dancing aliens

Most times if you talk about Aliens little men with white coats come by and take you away until you are feeling better and they have convinced you that there are no such things as Aliens.

doctor

Well my next thought was to contact my nephew Josh because he is the "Great White Hunter" and he rides around on a four wheeler and captures all kinds of wild animals.

dancing aliens

Surely he must know something about the missing tree. He said it was a bear that took that tree.

dancing bear

So then I had to ask if it was this dancing bear, as he was so happy. No it wasn't that bear for sure because he looks so innocent. Perhaps it was a big brown bear that took the tree.

dancing bear

By the looks of this bear he is too busy eating honey to have taken the tree. So I guess it couldn't have been a bear that took the tree.

So it is on to my niece Jessica to see if she knows the answer.

dancing bear

Jessica says, "The tree probably got cut down and taken away!" At last I have found the answer to the missing tulip tree.

Indeed the tree did get cut down because it was rotting on the inside out. Thus the mystery of the missing tulip tree has been solved.
