MY TRIBUTE TO MY MOM & DAD
(Written for their 45th Wedding Anniversary by Joyce Burdick)
John, do you remember coming to Potter County,
Where, picking up potatoes, you'd get your bounty?
There you soon met a lovely Miss Marie Young,
And cupid's arrow into your heart was sprung!
When you decided that it was time to call the JP
John, you called her up and said "Will you marry me?"
It might have taken her quite by surprise, you see,
But it's something to remember when you married Marie.
Potter County is where you decided to make your home,
And far from there, neither of you decided to roam.
In a few years the house was filled with many toys,
As Earl, Inez, Charles and Melissa brought you joys.
John, you went to work for Eberle Tanning Company,
While Marie kept the home and growing family.
Things weren't always smooth all along the way,
But now you've come to celebrate a very special day.
Marie, you have made quilts for many an occasion,
Ready with one when there is cause for celebration.
Those three grandchildren each cherish their own
A gift from "Grandma" that they are proud to own.
When Christmas times comes, your shopping is all done
You've been raising those pigs to share with each one.
They enjoy that good pork throughout all the year,
And you can go out and enjoy hunting those deer!
Raising a garden, or maybe enjoying a little fishing,
Gathering and enjoying leeks so early each spring.
Becoming active in the Hickox Community Church
For something to do you've never had to search.
Now in retirement, John enjoys his woodworking,
And Marie keeps busy with sewing and housekeeping.
You both relax with the church and your fishing,
To see more of your grandchildren you are wishing.
As you celebrate these forty-five years together,
And your family and friends all around you gather.
May you both enjoy many, many years more,
Of whatever this life may have in store.

From the Heart of Angel
My Mom and Dad celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on August 6, 1998. The poem above was written for them especially for their 45th Anniversary when all of us could be together to celebrate it with them. Some of their greatest joys have been when they have seen each of us kids graduate from High School and in some case graduate from College. And then of course when each grandchild was added to the family. And now even the grandchildren are getting married and the family continues to grow. It is my prayer that they will continue to let their love grow and will have many years of happiness together.
