THE BRAVE BABYSITTER
When I was in my teens I would baby-sit for the neighbors,
This way they could go out and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Sometimes it was in the summer or in the fall,
I was always ready when I would get their call.
As I sit here I remember well that one cold and wintery night,
When my imagination ran wild and caused a great fright.
The wind would blow outside and make the house creak,
It was so frightening I would almost give out a loud shriek.
Through the windows I could see the eyes of that Peeping Tom,
I had heard all about him from my Mom.
Quietly I arose and closed the window curtains,
Closing the curtains would protect me I was quite certain.
I carefully checked the door lock,
I didn't want any surprises from Tom the jock.
I calmed down for a little while because everything was secured,
Everything except my imagination was secured.
The wind started to blow outside and the house began to creak,
I began to think that Tom had gotten into the house that little sneak.
The stairs began to squeak with each step that was taken,
By now you know I was really shaken.
I knew I had to be brave,
Because the kids I had to save.
Their bedrooms were on the second story of the house,
And they were being quiet just like a mouse.
The wind outside stopped blowing and the sound of footsteps ceased,
For that moment I was safe at least.
Peeking in on the children I seen they were fast asleep,
Thankful they were alright I didn't weep.
The neighbors came home a short time later that night,
When they asked how things were I didn't tell them about my fright.
I told them that the kids were good and that they were fast asleep,
And I too went home so that I could get some much needed sleep.
Good old Peeping Tom I did not see,
Because the door was locked and he didn't have a key.
Your imagination can play many a trick,
So keep it under control and be very very strick.
