Veteran's Day Remembered
As far back as I can remember
There was always a celebration
On the Eleventh of November
For the Veterans of this nation.
In November 1918 an armistice was implemented
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day
Between Allies and Germany
And that ended the "Great War" that day.
President Wilson in 1919 declared the first Armistice Day
After the signing of the final peace treaty called "Treaty of Versailles"
It was a day that was to be filled with solemn honor and pride,
For the heroism of all those that had died.
On June 1, 1954 President Eisenhower did say,
From this day forward Armistice Day
Shall be know as Veteran's Day
And would remain a Federal Holiday.
Over the years many wars have been fought,
And a better way of life has been sought.
Many have given all that they had to give,
So that the rest of us may live.
Their deaths were not in vain,
But their dying has filled us with pain.
Our freedom they did win
And one day we will see them all again.
Many came back from the wars to family and friends,
They thanked everyone for the letters that they did send.
And many had stories that they could not tell,
But one thing in common was that War is hell.
So friends and family remember this Veteran's Day,
To stop what you are doing on that day,
Take a few minutes and say a heartfelt Thank You
To all the Veterans that you know.
